If you would like to make a contract with a cell phone company in the U.S., a U.S. Social Security Number may be required. Our international students have shared ways to obtain a U.S. phone number without a U.S. Social Security Number.

Prepaid Phones and Plans

No contract necessary.
Available at stores, such as Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, Walmart, Target and BestBuy in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Contracting a phone plan (such as a 2-year contract)

Contracting a phone plan could be an option if you will be in the U.S. longer than two years. Cell phones with contracts are available at Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile etc.
Note: Some stores may charge deposit if you do not have a U.S. Social Security Number.
